Dog Photography Workshop
Join us for an action‑packed dog photography workshop unlike any other workshops out there.
For the first time, three professional photographers come together to deliver an immersive learning experience that blends technical expertise, creative storytelling, and real‑world dog handling knowledge — all in one carefully designed workshop.
This is a rare opportunity to learn from multiple creative perspectives in a single day, gaining deeper insight, faster progress, and a richer overall experience.
Why This Workshop Is Different
Most workshops are led by a single instructor, but this photography workshop is built around collaboration.
You’ll benefit from:
- Three distinct photographic styles and approaches
- A balance of creative vision, technical mastery, and dog handling expertise
- Multiple viewpoints on composition, settings, timing, and storytelling
- More individual attention and a richer learning environment
The result? Faster learning, broader understanding, and more confident shooting
What You Will Learn
Throughout the workshop, you’ll learn how to:
- Capture sharp, dynamic action shots of dogs in motion
- Photograph dogs in a way that reflects personality and emotion
- Work confidently with different breeds, energy levels, and behaviours
- Use camera settings effectively for action, portraits, and natural light
- Improve composition, timing, and storytelling in your images
- Get more from your camera and lenses, whatever system you use
There will be plenty of carefully curated hands‑on shooting time, with guidance and feedback throughout the day.
Meet Your Instructors
Rachel Sinclair
International Photography Educator
With experience teaching hundreds of photographers across multiple countries, I specialise in helping people gain confidence, sharpen their skills, and develop their own creative voice. Whether you’re new to photography or looking to refine your style, you’ll receive clear guidance, thoughtful feedback, and practical techniques you can use straight away.
As well as teaching wildlife photography in the UK and East Africa, over the past 15 years, I have photographed many, many dogs… Tiny dogs like toy poodles, small dogs like Westies, medium dogs like Collies, big dogs like Dobermans and massive dogs like Newfoundlands. As well as fussy puppies, elderly dogs nearing the end of their time, shy dogs, rescued dogs with behavioural issues, lazy dogs who think they are cats and highly energetic dogs that can actually fly! Each dog brings its unique story, and I’ll show you how to capture their true character so you come away with awesome images!

Frequently Asked Questions
What time does the workshop start and where will it be held?
This Dog Photography Workshop will start at 9:30am and finish at 4:30pm.
Location: Sheffield – Woodland Discovery Centre, Abbey Ln, S7 2QZ
How many people will be attending the workshop?
Group sizes are intentionally kept small to ensure personal attention and a premium experience. A maximum of 15 people can book on this dog photography workshop, so we can split into 3 groups of 5. We will need 9 participants for this workshop to go ahead.
Is this workshop only for beginners?
Absolutely not! Because there are 3 tutors for the whole day, we will split into smaller groups so everyone is happy with the level they are being taught at. We want everyone to come away feeling they’ve had a great experience, had time to practice new techniques or improve on the foundations you already have and ultimately come away with awesome images and more confidence.
Do I need to be an experienced photographer?
Can I attend if I'm a dog walker or pet professional?
Is this workshop physically demanding?
The day involves standing and moving during shooting sessions, but the pace is relaxed and breaks are included. However, this workshop is unfortunately not suitable for anyone with mobility issues as we will be shooting in the ancient woodland that is muddy and slippery and there are steps to climb and unpaved areas. If you have mobility restrictions you may enjoy Rachel’s wildlife photography workshop instead.
Can I travel by public transport?
If you are travelling by public transport, the nearest railway station is Dore and Totley, a short taxi or bus ride from Ecclesall Woods. If you are arriving at Sheffield city centre, regular buses such as the 97 and 98 run towards the area near the Woodland Discovery Centre, with a short walk from the stop. We recommend checking current train and bus times in advance, allowing a little extra time for connections and the walk to the venue, especially if you are carrying camera equipment. You may wish to check current timetables and routes before you travel so you can plan your journey with confidence.
